How hard is it to swap seats?

Let’s say I had a pair of seats out of an NA Miata, without sliders, that I wanted to put into my Mazda5. What would I need? How easy should this be? Is this a bolt-in thing, or is there likely to be fabrication involved ?

Measure the bolt holes pattern and compare it to what you might find at fab9 tuning or someplace like that. I could measure mine tomorrow if you like

Seats are either super easy bolt-in, or frustratingly difficult requiring custom brackets and/or fabrication.

Like Cash Rewards says its all about measuring. You might luck out because many times a manufacturer keeps a standard track width and length across more than one platform. From one Mazda to another in a non-electric seat might be easy. If it had seat heaters or airbags it would be another issue. I’ve swapped seats in a few older cars in under 30 minutes.

The more important question is... Are you sure you want to go through the trouble for NA Miata seats? They’re not the worst in the world by any means, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call them good.

I would guess some brackets will need to be made to adapt the NA seats to your Mazda five rails.  Those NA seats are probably going to be considerably narrower.  This is usually accomplished with a few prices of flat bar and wee bit of welding.  Any shop should be able to do the fabrication for an hour or two of time.
